Established in 1976 the ADIA is a sovereign wealth fund belonging to the Government of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates founded with the goal of investing the country’s surplus oil money. Although they have never officially published how much they have in assets, accepted foreign estimates rank them with a management portfolio of over a US$1 trillion in excess oil reserves and around US$875 billion in assets making them the world’s second largest institutional investor behind the Bank of Japan according to the Oxford Business Group. Their headquarters stands pround facing out over the Persian Gulf from the Abu Dhabi beachfront with the unique and unusual shape of the building making for some awesome architectural imagery.
