With origins as far back as January 1886 Mercedes Benz have a reputation for producing high-quality and reliable vehicles. They’re the 12th most-recognisable brand in the world with a reported annual market value of around US$24 billion. In 2008 they produced the Formula 1 engines for Team McLaren that won the world championship for Lewis Hamilton and again for Team Brawn GP and Jenson Button in this year’s competition. Off the back of their F1 success they produced the formidable ‘SLR McLaren’ road car which, whilst selling for a mere £300,000, could achieve 0-100km/h in 3.5 seconds on a 5.1 litre V8 engine producing 617 hp @ 6500 rpm – it’s very nice and I would at all mind if they gave me one although I think I still much prefer James Bond’s Aston Martin DBS V12…
