Six times older than the Himalayas ‘Table Mountain’ remains one of the oldest mountains on earth. Originally formed beneath deep waters some 800 million years ago it eventually started to be pushed up out of the sea through a geological process known as istotacy and currently stands at a height of 1086m above sea level. There is evidence of prehistoric people having lived here as early as 600,000 BC.
