Always a hotly debated topic, this transition below perhaps perfectly demonstrates the power and potential of image editing in photography. The purists would argue that an image should always be left exactly the way it was shot but then again they probably lack the vision or skill in seeing the potential in any image and being able to turn that into a powerful item of art.

This pile of scaffold poles was lying around on a building site I was working on in Abu Dhabi and I immediately identified the potential in the random honeycomb pattern of poles. The resultant fine art print remains one of my most popular ‘Limited Edition’ images of all time and looks quite phenomenal printed out full size.

Simple, powerful, tactile and three-dimensional it perfectly demonstrates what is easily achievable if you can just learn to see potential. Opportunities for fine art image making are everywhere – get your camera out, look for opportunity and get shooting; go on give it  a try…
